Your Composite Deck: Durability and Style in 10 Simple Rules

Composite boards are incredibly popular – and for good reason! They’re durable, moisture-resistant, and don’t require painting or oiling like wood. But does that mean they’re completely maintenance-free? Not quite.

Proper care is key to keeping your terrace, balcony, or garden path looking great for years. Here are 10 essential rules to avoid damage and maintain the appearance of your boards.

1. Regular cleaning – the foundation of maintenance

Dust, sand, leaves, or greasy grill stains – all of this can damage the surface if left too long.

✅ Sweep regularly with a soft brush
✅ Wash with water and a mild detergent (e.g. dish soap)
✅ Wipe stains immediately with a damp cloth

2. Pressure washer? Yes, but carefully!

You can use it – but with moderation.

  • Max pressure: 60 bar
  • Use wide spray, never a focused jet!
  • Keep the nozzle at a safe distance

3. Sanding? Only in one case

Have scratches or tough stains? Use fine-grit sandpaper only on grooved boards.

🚫 Do NOT sand wood-textured boards – it may cause irreversible damage.

4. Furniture, grills – watch out for mechanical damage

Composite boards are tough, but not indestructible.

  • Use furniture with legs at least 3.5 × 3.5 cm
  • Apply felt or rubber pads
  • Avoid dragging sharp pots or heavy items

5. Sand and stones – a micro hazard

Small particles brought in on shoes can act like sandpaper. Frequent sweeping is a must!

6. Be careful with hot objects

🔥 Never place hot pots or pans directly on the boards
🔥 Cigarettes? Keep them away – glowing embers may leave permanent burns

7. Winter? Remember to clear snow

Composite boards are frost-resistant – but not... to metal shovels!

✅ Use plastic tools or a broom
🚫 Avoid salt and chemical de-icers

8. Cleaning agents – only mild ones

If you're unsure whether a cleaner is safe, ask yourself: “Would I use it on something that touches food?” If not – don’t use it on your deck!

⛔ Avoid solvents, corrosive agents, oils, or cosmetics

9. Just installed? Clean up!

Dust, mounting foam, and adhesives can bond with the surface. So:

  •  Wash the boards thoroughly after installation
  •  Use a soft brush or sponge and warm water

10. Enjoy it stress-free – that’s what composite decking is for 😊

Composite boards are a modern solution designed to make life easier, not harder. You don’t need to worry about every little stain or drop of rain. Instead of constantly being cautious – enjoy your terrace the way you like: with a barbecue, a book, with family, or in peaceful solitude.

Because durability and aesthetics matter – but above all, it’s about feeling good in your own space.

Liderwood decking boards are a long-term investment. No oiling, no staining, no maintenance stress – but like any material, they last longer if treated right.
