Decking Boards – Everything You Need to Know

In communication with our clients, we are always happy to provide all the necessary information and clarify any doubts. We have gathered your frequently asked questions and answered them to better assist you.

Composite Decking Board – which brand to choose?

When choosing a composite decking board, it is worth paying attention to manufacturers that have been present on the market for many years and have proven the quality of their products not only through customer satisfaction but also through certifications and approvals from relevant institutions. EcoTravers products available in our store have certifications from the Building Research Institute and a Hygiene Certificate from PZH, among others. Fire tests have also been conducted. All documents are available here.

Where to buy a composite decking board?

At Liderwood, we make every effort to ensure that our products meet the highest quality standards, and we don’t compromise — that’s why we recommend ourselves. You can order boards and all necessary accessories by phone, online, or via email, as well as purchase them in-store at one of our Sales Showrooms (Rumia, ul. Grunwaldzka 29 and Gdynia, ul. Morska 137). We encourage you to take advantage of the option to order samples.

How much does it cost to build a terrace?

The cost of building a terrace depends on the type of composite decking board chosen, the number of required accessories like pedestals or joists, and the size of the terrace. For a precise quote, feel free to contact us — we will help you with the project from A to Z.

Can the installation be done independently?

Yes, you can build the terrace yourself. We recommend reading our composite decking installation guide before starting the project.

How to install a composite decking board?

Installing a composite decking terrace is simple. On a level and stable substrate, place adjustable terrace pedestals, then lay the joists on them. Attach the boards to the joists using mounting clips. More details can be found in our other articles:

How to lay the composite decking boards?

Perpendicularly or parallel? The answer is — it doesn’t matter, but if you lay them perpendicularly to the wall, the joists will be laid parallel. In this case, remember to use rubber pads and adjustable pedestals to ensure the correct slope and water drainage. You can also lay the boards in a staggered pattern.

Additionally, the boards should not be placed directly on the ground — they must be installed on joists.

Which side should be facing up when installing a composite decking board?

All EcoTravers composite decking boards are double-sided, so they can be installed according to preference. Standard decking boards have fine grooves on one side and wide grooves on the other. 3D boards have a wood-grain pattern on one side and are grooved on the other. Premium boards have a wood-grain pattern on both sides and are dual-colored.

What to do if the threshold is too low?

If the window or door threshold is too low and standard pedestals do not fit, you should choose a low adjustable pedestal, such as the ETP 18-32 mm or 35-70 mm pedestal. Remember to account for the height of the joists and the thickness of the board.

How to choose the dimensions of a composite decking board for your project?

The chosen board should be thick but not too wide. The best width for a decking board is 14-15 cm, with a thickness of at least 2 cm. Our boards range from 2.2 to 2.5 cm in thickness. Standard 15 boards have a width of 15 cm, and all other decking boards have a width of 14 cm. Remember to maintain at least a 10 mm gap between the boards along their length. The length of the board depends on the layout of your project. In our store, we offer boards in lengths from 2.4 to 4 m.

What is the optimal spacing for joists?

The spacing of joists depends on the size of the boards. For our products, the spacing between joists should not exceed 35 cm.

When is the best time to build a terrace?

The best time to build a terrace is during the summer and spring when it’s warm. You can also install the terrace in autumn and winter, but it should not be done when the temperature is below 5°C. Composite can shrink in low temperatures, so if you’re building the terrace under such conditions, you should leave larger expansion gaps.
